God, there’s been so much going on since my last general update (about this time last month). In that time I’ve started a new job that’s… not difficult, or challenging, just very busy so it keeps me pretty occupied. It means less time online, and even less for games, though, since I’m so tired* when I get home. (More on that in a moment.)
I mentioned the day-before and the day-of that I was going to the Thursday night opening of Solo, and it was much better than expected. Not some cinematic masterpiece, but good for what it needed to be. Donald Glover as Lando could actually have been more animated, imo, but he wasn’t lacking by any means. The BFD, though? Oh my god, that cameo at the end. (I’m not saying who or what because there are still plenty of people who haven’t seen it, and IMO it’s that big a deal. I will, however, post a link to this gif of that moment–click at your own peril!) When that cameo happened I made noises that Brian described as something “only bats could hear” and that’s pretty accurate. I could only hear half a second the sound I made; I only know I made sound because I could feel it in my throat. Trust me, it’s good.
Um, let’s see…. E3 was last week. I didn’t get to watch all the pressers like I usually do, and still haven’t caught up on those I missed. Overall I was unimpressed with this year’s showing, though. There were amazing games–Anthem, Kingdom Hearts, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghosts of Tsushima, and of course Kojima’s bizarre brain child, Death Stranding. The last one actually had some content in its trailer this year, though; normal-ish (for the subject matter), even. I normally wouldn’t bother with the game in spite of how intriguing it is, but looking back on my P.T. stream from last summer I’m wondering if maybe I should (and stream that as well).
As for current games, I downloaded Skyrim and Pixeljunk Monsters 2 to my Switch. It’s my third copy of Skyrim, but my original is on PS3 and in storage & I’m not able to play on PC for the foreseeable future. So, Switch it is. Also, it has that added Switch-bonus of not needing to be played docked, which means Brian and I aren’t fighting over the tv.
Unfortunately, I have a very complicated relationship with PJM. I adore the games, but I’m so stubborn that I can’t move on to the next stage, much less the next area, unless I’ve collected all available rainbows on any given map. That means I haven’t made any progress at all. Oops.
Finally: the gym. Yep, I’m still going, though I did have to break my streak of not missing a single day due to being sick a week or so ago. I haven’t noticed any weight differences (or more importantly, changes in how my clothes fit, since that’s a better way to track progress, IMO). The only change I’ve seen so far for myself, in spite of being told there’s actual, overall change visible, is that my calves are different. I’m sure that’s mostly from
running doing the elliptical, but I also do that 30 minute circuit room so I suspect it’s also a (tiny) bit of muscle from over a month of strength stuff in there. Going after work instead of first thing in the morning is killing me, though. That’s what the * up above was for. The fact that I’m going around 6pm is torture, and I’m basically asleep before I even eat dinner. I’m trying to get myself conditioned so that I can try going before work (OMG so painfully early) to see if that helps again, but I haven’t managed it yet.
Other than that… yeah, I can’t think of anything. Brian’s become obsessed with “fixing” the Pop!Vinyl wall at our closing Toys ‘R’ Us, the cat went to the vet but is more or less okay, etc.
Currently playing: Skyrim & Pixeljunk Monsters 2
Last movie at the theater: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Watching: Parks and Rec, The Office, random history of video games documentaries on… I think it’s Amazon?
Listening to: Postmodern Jukebox at work & my standard techno and metal mixes at the gym

Walked past my old high school today, since we live nearby. You prolly can't see it here, but there's so much history here it's wild. Start up top with its real name (Sav High). Then, on the building to the side of the entry, the fallout shelter sign. Yep, we had a fallout shelter. And, finally, a pay phone. One that appeared to be connected, no less! #project365 158/365 #tbt

It doesn't look that special at all in its to-go box, but God I love Jason's Deli sometimes. This is a HALF portion of the chef salad. HALF. (See the mouse & keyboard for scale?) If I manage to eat all of this–IF I DO–I'll end up not needing to eat again until like… Lunch tomorrow. #project365 151/365 #clubsalad
So, back in November, I tweeted this:
— BrennaCeDria counting down to Dec 14, 9:30pm EST (@BrennaCeDria) November 1, 2017
By and far, November 1st was the best trip to Target I’d ever made in my life. I mean, I freaking love socks, but $15 for 12 pairs of licensed novelty socks? Star Wars novelty socks? The decision was made before I even knew buying them was a question. I don’t even know what the socks in them are, since they’re basically an Advent calendar of socks and you don’t open Advent calendars until each assigned day.
This did pose one problem for the first few days, though: How do I decide when to open them?
The “12 Days” part of the pack’s name evokes the Twelve Days of Christmas, but the Days-of-Christmas don’t begin until actual-real-December-25th-Christmas then continue until Epiphany. (Side Note: See, I do remember something from my one year in a Catholic elementary school!) To put things kindly, there was no way in effing hell I was waiting until Christmas to start my Star Wars 12 Days of Socks.
The next way I considered was to do it the twelve days before Christmas, since that’s what most people seem to think of anyway. Doing it that way would start me on the 14th, and while it times well with the release of The Last Jedi (since I’m seeing the movie at one of the night-before showings), it still put quite a long delay between buying the pack back on November 1st and when I get to actually enjoy them.
That narrowed things down to what, in hindsight, was the only acceptable choice: I open and wear one new pair a day on each of the twelve days leading up to The Last Jedi. It’s not quite following the twelve-days tradition properly, but at least I don’t have to wait any longer.
Oh, and those twelve days? THEY START TOMORROW.
So, starting tomorrow and going through Thursday the 14th, I’m unboxing and wearing a new, surprise pair of Star Wars socks daily. I’m currently praying to anyone who will listen to said prayers for low to moderate temperatures over the next two weeks, because I have to work almost every day between now and Star Wars, and to wear (and hide) these socks at work I have to wear some very warm boots. It’s not going to stop me either way, though, so starting tomorrow? You’re all going to have to deal with some very dumb posts about socks continuing through the 14th.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
…Or wishlists for any occasion, I guess, but Christmas is when people need them. This post is for family, Secret Santas, etc; no one else needs to bother with it. I put priority notes on these when the option’s available (like on Amazon) but regardless of priority tags, if they’re on this list, I’ll love them.
- Amazon (Anything here is good!)
- Lush (I’ve checked ingredients, and I’m 99% sure I’m not allergic to anything on this list. Also anything with the same ingredients are good.)
- My Art Commission Wishlist (Technically I guess this would just be prepaid gift cards I can use on PayPal, since IF anyone wanted to do this, they’d be able to pick an artist from my list but they’d probably need help picking out references and stuff for each character. Or not, idk. That link goes to my tumblr, and I have a lot of tags for each character I name. Just say specifically that’s what you mean for me to get with the card, cause otherwise I’ll get caught up in something else and spend it on the wrong thing by mistake.)
If I can think of other items for these lists, I’ll add them. I’ll also add to this post if I think of additional sites I should have lists for.
Also, individual items I can’t find to put on a site wishlish:
- Prepaid XM radio subscription card (these used to be a thing, but I don’t know now) I very much would like one of those. I want to renew the account that came with our car, so much but it’s so expensive monthly! I don’t know if they’re still a thing, though, they aren’t on Amazon.
- Credit for here on WordPress (I don’t know if there’s a way to gift things here through the site itself, or if that would also be a prepaid card like a commission would need to be. I hate hate hate my design here, though, and would die for a subscription upgrade.)
