I’ve been trying for almost a week now to find a video for today that fits some very specific themes, but I haven’t had any luck with that yet. So, instead, I have something very sad instead. Anime Safe Haven’s video for Fairy Tail’s Lucy and Aquarius, set to Maher Zain’s “So Soon.”
(Note: this is far from the last time you’ll see A.S.H.’s videos here. I adore so much of her work, and the fact that most of it is Fairy Tail doesn’t hurt, either.)
Just a bunch of random things that have come to mind lately:
Christmas songs are freaking weird. This is totally not a new thing, or realization, or whatever. This is also so very, very not comprehensive:
“Baby It’s Cold Outside” heavily implies date rape.
“Mary, Did You Know?” ignores a hell of a lot of the Gospels* for a religious carol. Gabriel specifically tells Mary what’s going on in one of them – Luke, I think? – and in another tells Joseph about it, too, so the guy doesn’t freak out about Mary. Like… “Mary, Did You Realize Exactly What This Meant” would be better. (*I’m not terribly religious anymore, and certainly not Catholic, but I still remember some of my classes at a Catholic elementary school.)
Something called “Please, Daddy, Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas” like what the fuck. Yes, father, please don’t be an abusive prick.
FUCKING “CHRISTMAS SHOES.” If you haven’t heard it, just like… look it up. It’s horrible and sad and whoever wrote it deserves to be punished for ever and ever. I’m not going into it any further than that.
Movies aren’t any better. It’s taken me forever to find a reference for this, so I almost thought I’d imagined it, but in “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”:
Like… I almost expect Donner to threaten to backhand (back-hoof?) Mrs. Donner for the audacity of wanting to take part in any activity outside of the home.
Okay, so I think that’s all I have about Christmas at the moment. What else is there… Oh, the Playstation. What a sad day. I didn’t even notice there weren’t any reviews in advance (only concern about the meager game list); if I’d realized it was under the embargo that it had, I may not have preordered it in the first place. As soon as we found out tho? Cancelled reservation. I’m still really interested in having one, but… not until they finish cracking it and the price drops if and when that happens. $100 for what’s in the box? Yeah, no.
Ugh, I had at least two other things I wanted to put into this mess of a post, but thanks to starting it before work and coming back to it now during lunch I’ve completely forgotten the rest.
Ah! How could I forget? AnimeSafeHaven makes some of the best AMVs I’ve seen in years, and most of those use Fairy Tail as their source video. And well, I love AMVs and Fairy Tail both, so when I realized they took requests I had to submit some (no guarantee it’d be chosen, of course, but I had to try). Well, one of them got picked! It was just uploaded Sunday:
That’s Fairy Tail to Sam Tinnesz’s “Legends Are Made” with a requested emphasis on Laxus (follow-up emphasis on the dragon slayers in general). And I kiiiiinda love it. So many scenes were worked in that I rarely see in AMVs from anyone, so it was even better than imagined. Now I just have to figure out what songs to ask for with Juvia (or the Gray/Juvia ship) and pray one of them gets picked. I’m not entirely sure why I’m obsessed with finding Gruvia vids, but I am and I can’t help it. I also want to ask for some really silly Gajeel ones, but I’ve already submitted the only song I’ve thought of so far.
For the life of me, I still can’t remember what that last thing I wanted to post was. I’ll leave this in drafts until I get home to see if I remember what it was, I guess? (There are a bunch of thoughts about the whole Tumblr debacle, but that’s more than this post can handle.)
…Yeah, it’s been hours now and I still don’t remember what the last bit was. I’ll try to remember later to post about Tumblr, as well as one other thing I’ve been kind of planning.
Okay, but seriously: If you have any interest in Fairy Tail and/or AMVs, go check out Anime Safe Haven on Youtube. The vast majority of their vids are Fairy Tail, and they’re wonderful; there’s also a smattering of other shows and multi-source vids. (Probably my favorite of the non-FT ones is an SAO one called Other Side of the Screen; there’s also an SAO for This is War that’s one of the best I’ve seen for the song.)
