Nov 2017: FFXIV, Stardew Valley, FFXV Comrades, Nintendo Switch

I’m still here! (…and still forgetting that I am here as well; thanks life for not giving me time to update pretty much ever.)

Okay, where are we?

FFXIV: I’m on a temporary hiatus from Eorzea at the moment… and by temporary, I mean “since Monday morning until probably Friday” and that’s it. I thought I’d be out longer, but I don’t think I’ll have to be anymore. My character’s “Brenna Ce’dria” now (curse the inability to capitalize more than one letter per word), instead of “Ria Hawke” and she made a trip to the aesthetician (I think I mentioned these before? I don’t remember) but she’s still the same character/progression.

She's quite heroic, fighting off an Ascian the way she is.

I’m right at the end of Heavensward so far as I can tell; I just got to Aszys Lla, which is awkward because just like transitioning from the end of 7th Astral Era plot to HW, I’m not used to mobs and quests being my level anymore. That means a lot of Brenna rushing into fights and dying, unfortunately. It also means I’ve been taking some time off for beast tribe dailies instead of progressing. >.>

Stardew Valley: I got here late, as usual, but we picked the game up on PS4 a few weeks ago. Farmer Brenna runs the Insomnia Farm (I was wide awake at 3am when I started my game, it sounded appropriate to the time) and is in ~loooove~ with Abigail. Even if Abby does eat rocks. Which is super, super weird, but she asked me to play Nintendo with her. How was I supposed to say no? Although really, if I’d known about the last bit of this update a few weeks ago, I’d have waited to get the game… Also, this is on my list of things I’m supposed to be streaming at random, but I normally play at like, 4-6am when I’m unable to sleep and that’s not really the best streaming time.

FFXV Comrades: This is finally out! The early combat, of course, is pretty much identical to the beta when I was in that, but so far I love both the setting (you’re a Glaive defending Lestallum after Noct’s disappearance/during the eventual 10 years of darkness) and that it’s Libertus who kind of runs things for the Glaive there. I mean yeah, the hunters and some of the Crownsguard are also there (Monica gives out missions, for example), but you’re a Glaive. You know you’re the one who’s important. And who, in my games, could be as important a crossover as Ria Hawke?

We still aren't sure if she's Ria or not, but she's cute, so does it matter?

Anyhow, I’ll be streaming this off and on, probably starting this weekend. I haven’t tried it yet, but it doesn’t look like it supports actual parties, but you can setup custom rooms so I guess we can use those if anyone wants to join me for games.

And finally… Nintendo Switch: So yeah, we recently received one of these? (Recently like yesterday.) I liked the system when some friends brought theirs (yes, plural friends and plural Switches) over when it first came out, but we didn’t really have any sort of draw to get our own. Well, one’s been gotten for us, so I have to find things to play on it now. Since I already have Stardew for (and well established on) PS4 I’m not going to get that for it, and I’m super easy mode so I don’t want Zelda, so what should I get? We do have Tetris/Puyo Puyo & Splatoon 2, but that’s all so far. So 1) what do you guys suggest and 2) add me!

The Brenquisition – Final Fantasy XV New Game+ (Chapter 4)

I feel horrible, because this chapter was done almost two months ago and I forgot completely to save it and put it in a post here, and my playlists in Twitch and Youtube. Chapter 4, of course, is quite short: Noct & Co. head to the Disc of Cauthess, hoping to find a cure for some horrible migraines.

Also there’s always the Twitch copy, if anyone prefers that. As for future posts, I’ll try and get at least Chapter 5 in sometime in the next week or two. I’ve been kind of craving the game again, and I want to work my way up to the new stuff in Chapter 12 as quickly as I can.

Final Fantasy XV New Game+ Silent Streams (Chapter 3)

We finished last time forcing our way through a blockade, after which Cor left us to roam Duscae and make our way to Lestallum. Iris made it there safely, and Talcott has the clue for our next destination.

…Thinking about it all after the fact, I should have taken advantage of the Episode Prompto outfit and given the poor boy something warmer to wear in Greyshire Grotto.

Alternately, the Twitch copies of my vids should always have the chat copies saved if you’d rather those instead!

Final Fantasy XV New Game+ Silent Streams (Intro and Chapter 1)

So I’ve mentioned, and have already completed, the first two of my silent streams for FFXV. I started these for mostly two reasons:

  1. as much fun as it is going into blind panic mode when the Zu attacks me for trying to get a garnet, that type of panic is distracting from the actual game
  2. I lost track of my original streams because honestly streaming from scratch is exhausting and in this case, at least, made the game a lot more work and a lot less fun

Also less fun was the unending supply of side quests; I’m usually too obsessive to not clear each and every quest and hunt, and that makes for some boring streaming. But! I’ve been through the game twice now (once blind, and once as my ridiculous Prince Spaceman) and can afford to spend my time only playing the plot and not obsessing over every little thing.

And so, without any further babble from me, here’s the Chapter 1 stream for this new project. With the rare exception of before and/or after the main content, no mic. Full subtitles. No side quests. No hunts. Just straight to Galdin, and then in later chapters straight to one story objective after another.

Final Fantasy XV Comrades Beta Playthrough

Well, not so much a playthrough considering the content, but about an hour and a half of checking out the beta test last weekend. Or rather… quite a lot of me rolling around and doing somersaults while waiting on a match. But it sounds like there’s going to be another beta added this weekend-ish to test an update to the matchmaking, which hopefully will be good. (I’ll be one it sometime or another, so hit me up on the PSN version whenever you want.)

The bare minimum, though? The test is the bare minimum, but it’s still fun. Especially on the first match I got since we had other live players and not just AIs.

Oh, and I just peeked at the test’s official page, and it has a decent comparison of test vs planned full-version features and requirements. Especially important for anyone who wants to try it out still, that the stability update should go live today. The only catch seems to be only those who already downloaded the test can get into this second round, since it wasn’t supposed to be a thing in the first place. (Thinking about this, it’s probably to accurately measure the effectiveness of the update. Adding more capacity but then increasing the load doesn’t do much for proper comparisons.)
