State of the Brenna, Thanksgiving 2018

Sooo… Happy Thanksgiving, for those in the States. And happy Multiple Days Off Work if you’re lucky enough to have a job that gives you these days off. I’ve had jobs that give these days and jobs that don’t, and if you have one that doesn’t give you time off please be careful driving (especially openers), don’t skip eating to keep up your energy (even if it means just one bite at a time in the back room), keep lots of Advil, etc, on hand (your co-workers will thank you!), and remember:

Just because you have to pretend the customer is always right, that doesn’t mean they are. If they’re “just” dumb and rude, grin and bear it. If they’re being abusive, call them out on it in any way that won’t lose you your job. Or maybe a way that will lose you your job. You know your situation, including if you can afford that risk. …Okay, that went on a tangent. (I do that sometimes.) The point was, they aren’t always right; you already know that just from normal days at work. Try not to let them get to you. If it helps (and this always helped me, even at the apartment complex) make up stories about those assholes as the day goes on. Funny stories. Mean stories. Whatever. It can be a good distraction. (But maybe don’t let your manager in on it, unless they’re the kind to help out.)

But hey, it’s Thanksgiving, right? So I guess I should give at least some thanks:

  • Brian, for putting up with all. of. my. bullshit. And I mean all of it. So much bullshit. Thanks, love.
  • My cats, for keeping me warm when Brian takes the covers.
  • My new job, for being a healthy environment. I never hold hard feelings against my last one, but it wasn’t healthy and I wasn’t healthy because of it.
  • People in the gym who clean the damned equipment properly.
  • Also, people in the gym the same height as me, because it means I don’t have to adjust the seats and such in the timed circuit room.
  • Um… a preemptive thankfulness for the three pairs of jeans I’ve had since 2012, only one of which I’ve ever actually worn, because when I lose about five more pounds and can fit them I’ll have ~$75 of “new” clothes that I won’t have to spend a dime on. Cause seriously, there aren’t a lot of dimes to go around and saving that much money is one of the best things right now.

Um… Damn. Okay, so I made the mistake of not finishing this post before going to the gym, and since then I’ve had breakfast, played games, napped, and had my official Thanksgiving dinner. That said, I forgot everything else I was planning on writing. Oops.

Anyway, enjoy your Thanksgiving; try to enjoy the weekend whether you’re off work or not, and take care of yourself especially if you’re working. If you go out shopping, don’t be a dick. I guess that’s really all there is to it.

Currently Playing: Stardew Valley (Mountain-Type farm) and Skyrim. Both on Switch this time.
Currently Reading: none at the moment (planning to re-read Good Omens once Brian finishes it)
Currently Watching: The Good Place
Listening To: AltNation on XM Radio (channel 36?), since there’s a free period this week. It’s basically the same as the Google Play station I linked in my October post.

Twelve Days of Socks: Star Wars Edition

So, back in November, I tweeted this:

By and far, November 1st was the best trip to Target I’d ever made in my life. I mean, I freaking love socks, but $15 for 12 pairs of licensed novelty socks? Star Wars novelty socks? The decision was made before I even knew buying them was a question. I don’t even know what the socks in them are, since they’re basically an Advent calendar of socks and you don’t open Advent calendars until each assigned day.

This did pose one problem for the first few days, though: How do I decide when to open them?

The “12 Days” part of the pack’s name evokes the Twelve Days of Christmas, but the Days-of-Christmas don’t begin until actual-real-December-25th-Christmas then continue until Epiphany. (Side Note: See, I do remember something from my one year in a Catholic elementary school!) To put things kindly, there was no way in effing hell I was waiting until Christmas to start my Star Wars 12 Days of Socks.

The next way I considered was to do it the twelve days before Christmas, since that’s what most people seem to think of anyway. Doing it that way would start me on the 14th, and while it times well with the release of The Last Jedi (since I’m seeing the movie at one of the night-before showings), it still put quite a long delay between buying the pack back on November 1st and when I get to actually enjoy them.

That narrowed things down to what, in hindsight, was the only acceptable choice: I open and wear one new pair a day on each of the twelve days leading up to The Last Jedi. It’s not quite following the twelve-days tradition properly, but at least I don’t have to wait any longer.

Oh, and those twelve days? THEY START TOMORROW.

So, starting tomorrow and going through Thursday the 14th, I’m unboxing and wearing a new, surprise pair of Star Wars socks daily. I’m currently praying to anyone who will listen to said prayers for low to moderate temperatures over the next two weeks, because I have to work almost every day between now and Star Wars, and to wear (and hide) these socks at work I have to wear some very warm boots. It’s not going to stop me either way, though, so starting tomorrow? You’re all going to have to deal with some very dumb posts about socks continuing through the 14th.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

(Personal) Christmas Wishlists for Family

…Or wishlists for any occasion, I guess, but Christmas is when people need them. This post is for family, Secret Santas, etc; no one else needs to bother with it. I put priority notes on these when the option’s available (like on Amazon) but regardless of priority tags, if they’re on this list, I’ll love them.

  • Amazon (Anything here is good!)
  • Lush (I’ve checked ingredients, and I’m 99% sure I’m not allergic to anything on this list. Also anything with the same ingredients are good.)
  • My Art Commission Wishlist (Technically I guess this would just be prepaid gift cards I can use on PayPal, since IF anyone wanted to do this, they’d be able to pick an artist from my list but they’d probably need help picking out references and stuff for each character. Or not, idk. That link goes to my tumblr, and I have a lot of tags for each character I name. Just say specifically that’s what you mean for me to get with the card, cause otherwise I’ll get caught up in something else and spend it on the wrong thing by mistake.)

If I can think of other items for these lists, I’ll add them. I’ll also add to this post if I think of additional sites I should have lists for.

Also, individual items I can’t find to put on a site wishlish:

  • Prepaid XM radio subscription card (these used to be a thing, but I don’t know now) I very much would like one of those. I want to renew the account that came with our car, so much but it’s so expensive monthly! I don’t know if they’re still a thing, though, they aren’t on Amazon.
  • Credit for here on WordPress (I don’t know if there’s a way to gift things here through the site itself, or if that would also be a prepaid card like a commission would need to be. I hate hate hate my design here, though, and would die for a subscription upgrade.)
