The Brenquisition – Final Fantasy XV New Game+ (Chapter 4)

I feel horrible, because this chapter was done almost two months ago and I forgot completely to save it and put it in a post here, and my playlists in Twitch and Youtube. Chapter 4, of course, is quite short: Noct & Co. head to the Disc of Cauthess, hoping to find a cure for some horrible migraines.

Also there’s always the Twitch copy, if anyone prefers that. As for future posts, I’ll try and get at least Chapter 5 in sometime in the next week or two. I’ve been kind of craving the game again, and I want to work my way up to the new stuff in Chapter 12 as quickly as I can.

The Wolf Among Us: Faith

I finally got off my butt (or on it, in front of the tv?) and restarted TWAU this afternoon. I wasn’t really feeling the best, so I only played through the first episode so far. I remembered most of this one from when I played before, but this is the only chapter I have played previously so future posts for the game will be completely blind playthroughs.

As always a copy of the stream is saved to my channel over on Twitch, if anyone wants the copy with chat included!

Final Fantasy XV New Game+ Silent Streams (Chapter 3)

We finished last time forcing our way through a blockade, after which Cor left us to roam Duscae and make our way to Lestallum. Iris made it there safely, and Talcott has the clue for our next destination.

…Thinking about it all after the fact, I should have taken advantage of the Episode Prompto outfit and given the poor boy something warmer to wear in Greyshire Grotto.

Alternately, the Twitch copies of my vids should always have the chat copies saved if you’d rather those instead!

4 Classic Dissidia Final Fantasy Replays

Full disclosure: The quality on these videos is horrible. That’s kind of a given, considering they were taken using the original PSP game’s replay feature, but nonetheless. One thing I didn’t remember until rewatching them, though, is that the game’s actual interface isn’t included in the replay. It makes for a good, clean (in context if not in resolution) playback I suppose, but this far after the fact I think it would have been better to have the UI to illustrate progress and lack thereof in each fight. At any rate, here are the videos I saved oh-so-long-ago:

Zidane vs Golbez: I originally labeled this one “Shade Impulse ?” and don’t for the life of me remember what that meant. Until rewatching this one, I’d completely forgotten how much I enjoyed Zidane’s style. In most games, even now, female characters are the main ones with quick hits and movements, so in most games I stick to the girls for that reason alone. Zidane was a pleasant exception to tradition.

Cloud vs Sephiroth Manikin: Simple and to the point, though there is some stuttering from the PSP conversion.

Bartz vs Sephiroth Manikin (17 level difference): So Bartz’s little opening line was “This is exciting” and I don’t think anything in Dissidia was ever more true for me, recorded or otherwise. I screwed up with picking the fight, and ended up with a manikin 17 levels higher than Bartz. I expected to die in seconds. I somehow lasted much, much longer than that. I still die, but lasting as long as I did was a miracle.

Destiny Odyssey VII Final Battle (Sephiroth): While FFVII isn’t my ultimate Final Fantasy, Cloud vs Sephiroth has become the ultimate Final Fantasy showdown pretty much fandom-wide and I’m not complaining about that when it results in fights like this one. This vid is the shortest of my four, and, well… my most successful. As in, my only successful one. Losing in the others were more exciting in many cases, but beating Sephiroth with Cloud just feels good.

So… yeah. These are what I have left of my original Dissidia experiences, and I’m looking forward to adding new videos with the beta for NT staring tomorrow. (Unrelated, seeing the videos embedded here make me feel a lot better about their quality. It’s still bad, because they’re so old, but having the smaller frames compared to watching directly on YouTube means less stretching & pixelating.)

@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and @RealGDT have traumatized me for life

My god, how do I even…

I was still having trouble with the FFXV Comrades beta yesterday–less the matchmaking this time, and more making it through the actual missions alive–so I decided to switch out to something else. The idea was to restart The Wolf Among Us, since I’ve only played a little of that before, and that was a very long time ago to boot. But for some god-forsaken reason, I decided it was a good effing idea to try P.T. out instead. (Here, have the not-terrifying Silent Hills wiki as reference.)

Even as I was posting last-minute announcement link to Tumblr, I knew:

This is probably a mistake.

And yet… I did it anyway. I don’t do survival horror. I have neither the stomach nor the skill for it. I’d never played P.T. in the past. I’d only barely watched it when others were here playing. But there I was, starting P.T. even though I knew better.

Fucking hell.

The video’s long (about 3h15m), but it speaks for itself.

Or, if you’d rather have the chat replay (though it’s kind of spotty) you can watch the copy saved to Twitch itself here. I wouldn’t have made it through to the end without the guys in my room, and they deserve a ton of credit for getting me through. Special apologies to one of the guys (iron_eagle10, I think? I can’t remember, I could only glance at chat for a second at a time and missed the name) for one of my screams being especially sudden and jarring.

But anyway… Wow. Am I glad I finally played this? I’m not sure. It was a hell of an experience, but one that left me sobbing and physically ill from anxiety for much of its duration. I’m guessing anyone else who actually still has this (since it was pulled from PSN and the only way to have it now is to never have uninstalled it in the first place) has already played, so I don’t feel the need to make a recommendation. There is, however, one very important thing I want everyone to remember:

George Lucas is my patronus.

Bonus: Victory cheeseburger and strawberry milkshake, because at about two-thirds of the way through the stream I wanted to stop playing and get ice cream, but all the ice cream places were closed by the time I finished.

Final Fantasy XV New Game+ Silent Streams (Intro and Chapter 1)

So I’ve mentioned, and have already completed, the first two of my silent streams for FFXV. I started these for mostly two reasons:

  1. as much fun as it is going into blind panic mode when the Zu attacks me for trying to get a garnet, that type of panic is distracting from the actual game
  2. I lost track of my original streams because honestly streaming from scratch is exhausting and in this case, at least, made the game a lot more work and a lot less fun

Also less fun was the unending supply of side quests; I’m usually too obsessive to not clear each and every quest and hunt, and that makes for some boring streaming. But! I’ve been through the game twice now (once blind, and once as my ridiculous Prince Spaceman) and can afford to spend my time only playing the plot and not obsessing over every little thing.

And so, without any further babble from me, here’s the Chapter 1 stream for this new project. With the rare exception of before and/or after the main content, no mic. Full subtitles. No side quests. No hunts. Just straight to Galdin, and then in later chapters straight to one story objective after another.
